Debbie Gunther's story began five years ago when singing superstar Colette was murdered while performing live at the Las Vegas Palace Casino. Colett's killer is immediately gunned down, but before he dies, he said he did it because the Boss made him do it. Everyone assumes he is referring to God.
Colette's fame, however, doesn't end with her death. Her popularity continues to the point that five years after her murder, the same casino where Colette died, hires a Colette impersonator.
Young Debbie Gunther is less worldly than Colette, but on stage she is the late star's spitting image, and inside she's deceptively bright and strong. After years of abuse from an unloving father, Debbie has learned to be a fighter.
Debbie's spirit comes in quite handy when, on her first day at the Crystal Palace Casino, she receives a threatening note. Not wanting to ruin her first real break, she keeps the news from the Casino's owner, the iron-fisted Ms. Elizabeth and the equally tough Jack Armstrong.
Soon, Debbie receives more than just a note: a copy of Colette's death dress and the Bouquet of Death (an identical bouquet had been sent to Colette on the day she died). Also, someone is stalking her. The only person she confides in is a young reporter named Dan Springer. Together they try desperately to solve this bizarre mystery before it's too late for Debbie.
